Manufacturing Improvement - March to May 2010

A leading European manufacturer of eco friendly boilers needed to pass a factory audit to gain a commercial approval to effectively market and sell its products in the UK. It knew its processes and organisation needed improvement, so it approached a nationally recognised consultancy company to deliver what was required.

Faced with a lack of experienced manufacturing consultants, the company in turn approach DASL and asked Adrian to spend some time working with the team and delivering a range of improvements.

Spending an average of two days a week, over a three month period, working in Ireland at the manufacturing facility Adrian helped the team introduce a range of measures and processes to improve the business.

Adrian worked with the team at both shop floor and executive level to review the entire operation. The process was mapped and projects identified to both win external accreditation and improve overall efficiency and effectiveness.

The whole of the assembly process was document with technical work instructions; bills of material were formulated and crossed referenced; systems of incoming inspection were standardised and applied; test methodology was reviewed and improved; procurement and inventory management was rationalised and organised and the entire quality management system was reviewed, improved and re-documented.

At the end of the three month period the business was audited by an external body and was awarded the factory approval they required.
