Sub assembly outsourcing

When a Devon manufacturer of surgical medical equipment was looking to achieve a fourfold increase in production they contacted the South West Manufacturing Advisory Service to help them re-engineer their supply chain.

Phil Halse of the MAS put them in touch with three potential suppliers who could take on parts of their manufacturing process to enable the increase in volume.

Direct Assembly Solutions Limited was chosen to supply first level assemblies batch manufactured and shipped direct to line.

This lean supply chain tactic helped the customer to re-examine their own in house production approach and they have been able to implement one piece flow and achieve the desired increase in production volumes.

DASL now supplied the customer over a six month period to their own internal production demand, often shipping weekly but able to achieve fully flexible ad-hoc volume as required. Once the customer had re-aligned their internal processes they were able to seamlessly transfer production back in house.

DASL still supply the customer with a number of other sub assembly items.
